As GEO/AI-visibility vendors increasingly gate any free access behind a time-limited trial, a small group still keeps a standing, no-expiry $0 plan next to their real paid tiers. We checked every tool in our index against its own published pricing and found 9: AthenaHQ, Promptwatch, GEO Tool, Ubersuggest, geoSurge, AI Sightline, CiteLens, EdenRank and SEORCE. What each free tier actually includes, and where it stops, varies enough that "has a free plan" is not a useful buyer signal on its own.

What this collection covers

AthenaHQ's Essential plan is the most credit-metered of the original five: $25 of free credit (about 300 credits) a month across five engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude), with Microsoft Copilot and Grok held back for the $295/month Starter tier. Promptwatch's "Explore" plan is marketed as "free forever" and, unusually among self-serve tools, doesn't publish a specific cap on tracked prompts or websites at that tier; worth confirming directly before relying on it. GEO Tool's free layer is the narrowest: a single one-off 0-100 GEO Score audit, not an ongoing monitoring dashboard, and the tier above it is a one-time €299 (about $335) fee rather than a subscription, the only pay-once product in this set. Ubersuggest's Free plan clearly covers its core SEO toolset, but its own marketing page doesn't confirm whether any AI-visibility tracking runs at that tier at all; confirmed AI-visibility tracking (10 monthly prompts across ChatGPT, AI Overviews and Gemini) only starts on the $29/month Personal tier. geoSurge's Free (BYOK) plan is the most generous of the original five: unlimited tracked prompts across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, full REST API, CSV/JSON export and MCP access, and unlimited seats, provided you supply your own model API key and pay that usage separately.

AI Sightline's Free plan covers just two of the six engines this tool eventually tracks, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, at three prompts scanned once a week. API access (100 calls/month) is included even at $0, but Copilot, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity all require at least the $29.95/month Starter tier. CiteLens's Free plan covers three AI engines, ten tracked prompts and five GEO audits a month, with no API access below the $599/month Pro tier, the highest API cutoff in this set. EdenRank's Free plan tracks only three of the ten answer engines it eventually covers: Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot, with no ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity. It caps at five active prompts and a weekly digest rather than real-time alerts; the $59/month Starter tier opens the rest. SEORCE's Free plan is labeled "forever" rather than a trial and bundles ten AI-visibility prompts a month with core SEO tools like site crawling and AutoFix repairs. Every paid step above it, starting at $49/month, adds prompt volume and competitor tracking rather than unlocking AI tracking for the first time.

What it takes to be on this list

A tool earns a place here only if its own CitedIndex listing's sourced pricing shows a standing $0 tier with no time limit and no one-time-only signup bonus, sitting alongside at least one real priced tier above it: a genuine freemium ladder. A tool with no priced tier at all belongs in our free-and-open-source collection instead; a tool whose only no-cost option is a time-boxed trial (however long) belongs in our free-trial collection, not here.
