Head to head

Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Similarweb AI Search Intelligence

Ahrefs Brand Radar slots AI-visibility tracking inside an existing SEO suite, while Similarweb AI Search Intelligence sells it as a standalone add-on from a public digital-analytics company. The choice turns on where the AI data lives in your stack and whether you already pay for either vendor.

Both products solve the same underlying problem: showing you how often your brand appears in AI-generated answers, and against which competitors. They were built for very different buyers, though, and the contrast between them turns on where the AI data lives in your existing stack rather than on raw feature counts.

Ahrefs Brand Radar is an add-on that activates inside an Ahrefs account. It does not exist as a standalone product: you must already pay for Ahrefs Lite (€119/month) or higher before any of its AI tracking turns on. On top of that base, Brand Radar runs prompts through Google AI Overviews and AI Mode (treated as a single surface), ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, and prices each surface at €179/month, or all five bundled for €654/month, with 2,500 custom-prompt checks included. A YouTube, TikTok and Reddit mention-tracking module is bundled free while in beta. Because the data sits inside Ahrefs, every mention view is cross-referenced against Ahrefs' existing backlink and keyword index. Most of that data refreshes on a roughly monthly cadence, which is slower than several dedicated AI-visibility trackers in this index.

Similarweb AI Search Intelligence is sold as a standalone module from publicly traded Similarweb (NYSE: SMWB), a vendor with $282.6M in FY2025 revenue and 6,128 customers reported in its 20-F. It tracks four engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode) and ships five sub-modules at every paid tier: AI Brand Visibility, Prompt Analysis, Citation Analysis, Sentiment Analysis and AI Traffic. The entry tier is $99/month billed annually ($129 monthly), for 150 tracked prompts, one user and three months of historical data; the mid tier adds Similarweb's SEO and competitive-intelligence modules at $333/month; the top tier layers paid-media intelligence for $542/month. Sentiment Analysis and AI Traffic are the differentiators: AI Traffic tells you which competitor landing pages are actually capturing AI-referred visits, not just which brands are being named.

Engine coverage is the loudest practical difference. Both leave Claude, Grok and DeepSeek off the list. Ahrefs covers Microsoft Copilot where Similarweb does not; Similarweb treats Google AI Mode as its own surface where Ahrefs bundles it with AI Overviews. Neither is broader. They overlap on three engines and diverge on the fourth and fifth. Total monthly cost lands in a similar band once you load both with real coverage: a fully-loaded five-surface Ahrefs setup runs about €773/month once the €119 base subscription is added to the €654 bundle; the mid-tier Similarweb stack lands at $333/month for SEO plus competitive intel bundled with the AI module.

Limitations
  • Does not track Claude, Meta AI or DeepSeek. A real gap against rivals in this index such as Profound or Goodie AI that cover more engines. (2 sources)
  • Requires an active Ahrefs subscription on top of its own per-surface fee. A fully-loaded five-surface setup runs roughly €773/month before any extra custom-prompt usage, well above most dedicated AI-visibility trackers in this index. (2 sources)
  • Most platform data refreshes on a roughly monthly cadence rather than daily, per independent reviewer testing, which is slower than several purpose-built competitors. (1 source)
  • Provides mention and share-of-voice data without the actionable content-optimization recommendations some rivals bundle in. (1 source)
  • Entry pricing starts at $99/month for just 150 tracked prompts and 1 user with only 3 months of historical data, and reaching 6 months of history or adding SEO or competitive-intelligence modules requires the $333/month tier. (1 source)
  • No dedicated API for AI Search Intelligence is disclosed, with the broader Similarweb API gated behind a custom business package and not self-serve. (1 source)
  • Engine coverage has narrowed to four (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Mode) from six on the previous version of this listing, and excludes Claude, Grok, and DeepSeek that several rivals track. (2 sources)

Verdict: Ahrefs Brand Radar or Similarweb AI Search Intelligence?

Choose Ahrefs Brand Radar if you already run SEO inside Ahrefs and want one tab in the same dashboard. Copilot coverage and the social-listening beta are the upside, the monthly refresh cadence and the absence of Claude or AI Traffic measurement are the trade. Choose Similarweb AI Search Intelligence if you need AI-referred traffic data, sentiment analysis, or you already pay Similarweb for market analytics and want AI visibility from the same vendor. You give up Copilot and the social-listening beta to get there.

Frequently asked questions

Which tool tracks more AI engines?
Ahrefs Brand Radar covers five surfaces: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode (treated as one), ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. Similarweb AI Search Intelligence covers four: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode (treated as its own surface). The three engines both tools track in common are ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini; Ahrefs adds Copilot, while Similarweb breaks AI Mode out separately.
Does either tool track Claude, Grok, or DeepSeek?
No. Both Ahrefs Brand Radar and Similarweb AI Search Intelligence currently exclude Claude, Meta AI, Grok and DeepSeek from their tracked surfaces, which is a real gap against dedicated AI-visibility trackers in this index such as Profound or Goodie AI.
How much does each tool cost for full coverage?
A fully-loaded Ahrefs Brand Radar setup, the €119/month Lite base plus the €654/month all-five-surfaces bundle, runs about €773/month, before any extra custom-prompt usage. Similarweb's mid-tier AEO + SEO + Competitive Intelligence bundle is $333/month billed annually and already includes its AI Search Intelligence module.
Which tool is better for measuring AI-referred traffic?
Similarweb AI Search Intelligence. Its AI Traffic module measures how much AI-referred traffic a site gets over time and which competitor landing pages are capturing that traffic. Ahrefs Brand Radar focuses on brand mentions, citations and share-of-voice inside AI answers rather than referral traffic.
How often does the data refresh?
Ahrefs Brand Radar refreshes most of its platform data on a roughly monthly cadence per independent reviewer testing. Similarweb does not publish an explicit refresh interval on its AI Search product pages, but the inclusion of a time-series AI Traffic module implies more frequent updates than once a month.
Can I use either tool without an existing subscription?
No to Ahrefs Brand Radar: it requires an active Ahrefs Lite or higher subscription (from €119/month) before any of its AI tracking activates. Similarweb AI Search Intelligence is sold standalone at the entry $99/month tier, so you do not need an existing Similarweb web-analytics contract to buy it.
