LLMrefs vs RankZero

LLMrefs and RankZero both watch how a brand shows up inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other AI answer engines, but they sit at opposite ends of the monitor-it-yourself-versus-pay-someone-to-fix-it spectrum. LLMrefs is a self-serve SaaS tool: sign up, set up your prompts, and read a dashboard. One flat "All in One" plan at $79/month covers every supported engine, 500 tracked prompts, unlimited team members and projects, with a 7-day free trial and no credit card required. RankZero is a managed service: every engagement starts with a booked call, and three tiers (The Inquiry Engine, The Growth Machine, The Category Leader) are scoped by deliverables (pages optimized, content pieces produced per month, prompts tracked) rather than a self-serve price tag.

Engine coverage and depth differ too. LLMrefs tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot per its own pricing page, the broader named list of the two. RankZero's homepage names four (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews), with its own docs adding Claude as a fifth tracked surface. But LLMrefs stops at reporting: an independent hands-on review (GenerateMore, tested November 2025) scored its data accuracy and freshness 2/5 each, citing a monthly refresh cadence for prompt-level data. RankZero pairs its tracking dashboard with actual work: 10 to 30 new content pieces per month, technical AEO and schema fixes, and 10 to 100 pages optimized depending on tier. A citation gap gets worked on rather than only reported.

The clearest differentiator is RankZero's written guarantee: at least a 25% lift in AI-referred traffic within 90 days (50%+ on the top tier), measured against the client's own Google Search Console and GA4 data, or RankZero keeps working at no extra charge. LLMrefs makes no comparable outcome promise; it's a measurement tool, not a service with skin in the game. In exchange, RankZero asks for a sales call and an undisclosed dollar figure for every tier, while LLMrefs publishes its single price up front and lets a team start tracking in minutes. RankZero does bundle a genuinely free tool suite: a 30-second AI-readiness audit, an llms.txt generator, a structured-data validator and an AI-ecommerce-readiness report, all usable before any call is booked.

Company-wise, LLMrefs is a young, self-serve product founded in May 2025 by James Berry in London, selling exactly one plan with no per-engine add-on fees. RankZero, founded by Niels Post and Johannes Notheis, sells a labor-intensive managed program rather than software alone, and does not publish independently-corroborated customer or rating figures (its self-reported "6,714+ brands audited" and "4.9/5.0 on G2" claims could not be verified against G2 directly, which blocked a direct fetch).
