# Which AI Engines Do AI-Visibility Tools Track? The 2026 Census

_We checked engine coverage across 55 AI-visibility tools in our index. ChatGPT is tracked by 53. Microsoft Copilot, by just 21 — the one most tools still skip._

Every AI-visibility tool answers the same underlying question — "how does my brand look inside AI-generated answers?" — but which AI it actually checks varies more than the marketing pages let on. We went through all 55 GEO/AI-visibility tools in our index (the 14 managed citation-services agencies are excluded — they build programs around whatever engines a client needs rather than naming a fixed set) and tallied which of the six engines buyers ask about most — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Anthropic's Claude, [Microsoft Copilot](https://copilot.microsoft.com/) and Google AI Overviews — each one actually claims. **ChatGPT is tracked by 53 of the 55 (96%) — effectively table stakes. Microsoft Copilot is tracked by just 21 (38%) — by far the least-covered engine in the category, and the single most common gap even among tools that otherwise track everything else.**

## How we classified each tool

Every listing in our index is researched and sourced against the vendor's own live pricing, product and docs pages. We read that existing research — not a new vendor survey — and recorded which of the six engines each tool's own materials confirm it tracks, at any tier (including an Enterprise-only or paid-add-on tier — a real but gated capability still counts as coverage; whether that coverage is included in the *cheapest* tier is a separate question we call out below, not folded into the count). Two tools, Addlly AI and GEOrank, are excluded from the engine tally even though both are GEO-optimization listings: neither monitors named AI engines for brand mentions. GEOrank is a page-diagnostic and content-tooling workbench; Addlly AI is a Shopify content-generation app whose own product materials name no AI engine at all and describe it as content production "rather than search-visibility analytics or rank tracking." For either, "0 engines" would misrepresent a different product shape as a gap. They stay in the 55-tool base — they are AI-visibility-adjacent listings a buyer will meet in this index — but they contribute no engine coverage, which is why the per-engine shares below are a share of 55 rather than of the 53 tools that do monitor engines.

## Copilot is the engine nearly everyone skips

Line up the six engines by how many of the 55 tools track them and one gap stands out from the rest: ChatGPT (96%), Perplexity (84%) and Google AI Overviews (75%) are each covered by a large majority of the category. Gemini sits at 80%. Claude falls to 56%. Copilot falls to just 38% — 21 of 55 — making it the only engine covered by a minority of tools, and by a wide margin.

The pattern holds even inside the group of near-complete tools. Fifteen tools track exactly five of the six engines — one gap each — and **Copilot is the missing engine in 9 of those 15** (Archytas AISpy, Frase, Knowatoa, Local Dominator AI Tracker, Rank Prompt, Scrunch AI, Searchable, Trakkr, Directree GEO Monitor). Claude accounts for the other 6 (Ahrefs Brand Radar, Bloomiro, Dageno AI, Gauge, Peec AI, RadarKit). Put another way: if a tool in this category tracks "almost everything," the one engine it's most likely still missing isn't the one buyers usually worry about (Claude) — it's Copilot.

_(2026-08-04 update, ninth pass: added HubSpot AEO, an answer-engine-optimization product built by HubSpot using the team and technology from its October 2025 acquisition of XFunnel, to the 3-engine group — HubSpot's own live product pages confirm ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, with no Claude, Copilot or Google AI Overviews claimed anywhere. Base moves from 54 to 55 tools; per-engine shares recomputed: ChatGPT 96% unchanged (53/55), Perplexity 83%→84% (46/55), Gemini 80% unchanged (44/55), Claude 57%→56% (31/55), Copilot 39%→38% (21/55), AI Overviews 76%→75% (41/55) — Claude, Copilot and AI Overviews each fall slightly because HubSpot AEO joins the base without tracking any of them. 2026-08-04 update, eighth pass: added Amplitude AI Visibility, a free AI-visibility feature bundled into every Amplitude analytics plan, to the 2-engine group — Amplitude's own FAQ confirms only ChatGPT and Google AI Overview live today, with Perplexity, Gemini and Claude publicly announced as "coming soon" with no confirmed date, so only the two live engines count as coverage. Base moves from 53 to 54 tools; per-engine shares recomputed: ChatGPT 96% unchanged (52/54), Perplexity 85%→83% (45/54), Gemini 81%→80% (43/54), Claude 58%→57% (31/54), Copilot 40%→39% (21/54), AI Overviews 75%→76% (41/54) — AI Overviews is the only share that rises, since Amplitude AI Visibility is the sole new tool that tracks it. 2026-08-02 update, seventh pass: added Directree GEO Monitor, a weekly AI-visibility tracker with a code-enforced brand-free question design, to the 5-engine group — its Pro tier confirms ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude; no source checked names Microsoft Copilot anywhere on the product's own pages. Base moves from 52 to 53 tools; per-engine shares recomputed: ChatGPT 96% unchanged (51/53), Perplexity 85% unchanged (45/53), Gemini 81% unchanged (43/53), Claude 58% unchanged (31/53), AI Overviews 75% unchanged (40/53), Copilot 40% unchanged (21/53) — Directree GEO Monitor tracks every engine except Copilot, so it doesn't move any single share by more than rounding. 2026-08-01 update, sixth pass: added Dageno AI, a hyper-localized GEO monitor, to the 5-engine group — its homepage and its Enterprise tier's own named platform list together confirm ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews, but no source checked names Claude anywhere. Base moves from 51 to 52 tools; per-engine shares recomputed: ChatGPT 96% unchanged (50/52), Perplexity 84%→85% (44/52), Gemini 80%→81% (42/52), AI Overviews 75% unchanged (39/52), Copilot 39%→40% (21/52), Claude 59%→58% (30/52) — Claude falls slightly because Dageno AI joins the base without tracking it. 2026-07-31 update, fifth pass: added CiteLens, a self-serve GEO/visibility tool with an ongoing free plan, to the 3-engine group — its own homepage confirms ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude live today, and its listing names Gemini and Google AI Overviews as "being added" rather than shipped, so neither counts as coverage. Base moves from 50 to 51 tools; per-engine shares recomputed: ChatGPT 96% unchanged (49/51), Perplexity 84% unchanged (43/51), Claude 58%→59% (30/51), Gemini 82%→80% (41/51), AI Overviews 76%→75% (38/51), Copilot 40%→39% (20/51) — the last three fall because CiteLens joins the base without tracking any of them. 2026-07-30 update, fourth pass: added Adobe Brand Visibility, Adobe's new enterprise GEO product (launched 2026-06-17), to the 3-engine group — official Adobe materials confirm ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot live today, with Google Gemini named as planned but not yet shipped; no source checked confirms Claude or, distinctly, Google AI Overviews as opposed to AI Mode. Base moves from 49 to 50 tools; every per-engine share recomputed: ChatGPT 96% unchanged (48/50), Perplexity 84% unchanged (42/50), Copilot 39%→40% (20/50), Gemini 84%→82% (41/50), AI Overviews 78%→76% (38/50), Claude 59%→58% (29/50) — the last three fall slightly because Adobe Brand Visibility joins the base without tracking any of them. 2026-07-30 update, third pass: added Conductor, an 18-year-old enterprise SEO platform whose AgentStack suite confirms all six engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and AI Overviews — to the all-six group. Base moved from 48 to 49 tools at that time; per-engine shares then were ChatGPT 96% (47/49), Perplexity and Gemini 84% each (41/49), AI Overviews 78% (38/49), Claude 59% (29/49), Copilot 39% (19/49). 2026-07-30 update, second pass: added Addlly AI, a Shopify content-generation app published here on 29 July through our public submission form, as a second non-engine-specific row alongside GEOrank — its own materials name no AI engine and describe content production rather than visibility monitoring, so it earns no "—" gaps. It still counts in the base, which moved from 47 to 48 tools at that time. 2026-07-30 update: added VisibAI, a newly-launched AI-visibility audit tool, to the breakdown — it tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, so it lands in the 4-engine group. 2026-07-29 correction, still accurate: the previous version of the paragraph above mis-listed Gauge as a Copilot-gap tool and Searchable as a Claude-gap tool — backwards from what the table above has always shown. Gauge's own row is missing Claude; Searchable's is missing Copilot.)_

We don't have a confirmed reason from vendors for why Copilot specifically lags, but a plausible, unverified factor worth naming honestly: Copilot's answers are harder to query programmatically and more tightly bound to Microsoft's own Bing/Edge ecosystem than ChatGPT's or Perplexity's APIs, which several of these tools' own docs describe scraping or querying directly. That's an inference from the shape of the gap, not something a vendor has told us — treat it as a hypothesis, not a finding.

## The all-six club, and who's missing from it

Thirteen tools in our index — AIclicks, Evertune, Goodie AI, LLM Pulse, LLMrefs, Nightwatch, Profound, Promptwatch, Qwairy, RankScale, Rankshift, Writesonic and Conductor — claim all six core engines somewhere in their lineup. Only 8 of those clear a stricter bar worth checking before you buy: every engine live at a **fixed, published price**, not walled off behind a custom Enterprise quote. Profound, Writesonic and Goodie AI all confirm full six-engine coverage exists — but only on a sales-gated top tier; AIclicks scales its simultaneous-engine count by plan the same way; Conductor is a step further still — it publishes no fixed price on *any* tier, so its six-engine coverage is confirmed but entirely quote-gated. We keep a standing, continuously-checked list of the ones that don't make you go through a sales call: **[AI-Visibility Tools With Full Six-Engine Coverage](/collections/six-engine-ai-visibility-tools)**.

## Why this is a real buying question

- **"Tracks all six" and "tracks all six on the plan you'll actually buy" are different claims.** Profound's own FAQ names all six engines — but its self-serve Starter plan tracks ChatGPT alone; the rest requires Enterprise. Check the tier, not just the vendor's headline engine list.
- **If your buyers use Microsoft Copilot or Bing Chat, narrow your shortlist fast.** At 40% coverage, most tools in this category simply won't tell you anything about how your brand appears there. The all-six list above is the fastest way to filter for it.
- **Coverage breadth isn't automatically the right axis to optimize.** Our own [comparison table](/best-ai-visibility-tools/) FAQ makes the same point about engine count generally: match the tool to the engines your specific audience actually uses. A B2C retail brand may reasonably care more about ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews than Copilot; a Microsoft-shop-heavy B2B vendor might weigh it the opposite way.

## What this census doesn't tell you

This counts whether a vendor's own sourced materials *claim* coverage of an engine — not how accurate, fresh or deep that tracking is once you're a paying customer. A tool that "tracks Copilot" on paper could still do it worse than a rival that doesn't claim it at all; we haven't independently benchmarked tracking quality per engine here. It's also a snapshot: several tools in this index have added engines as a documented capability after their original listing went live (our own [MCP support census](/blog/mcp-server-support-ai-visibility-tools-2026/) noted the same pattern for that feature), so a "—" here means "not confirmed as of this pass," not a permanent no. If a specific engine's coverage is a deciding factor in a purchase, confirm it directly against the vendor's current pricing page before buying.

## Methodology

Every row above comes from a listing already published on this index, tagged against each tool's own sourced pricing, docs and product-page claims — not a new vendor survey. The 55-tool base excludes the 14 citation-services agencies in our index (managed GEO/AEO service providers build programs around whatever engines a client needs, rather than naming a fixed set) and treats GEOrank and Addlly AI separately as non-engine-specific listings — a page-diagnostic workbench and a Shopify content-generation app respectively, both counted in the base but contributing no engine coverage. "Tracks an engine" means the vendor's own materials confirm coverage at *some* tier, including an Enterprise-only or paid-add-on tier — see each linked listing for exactly which plan unlocks which engine, and its own `last_verified` date and full source citations. This census also backs the engine-coverage read on our [full AI-visibility tools comparison](/best-ai-visibility-tools/) and the [six-engine collection](/collections/six-engine-ai-visibility-tools), so you can cross-reference engine coverage against pricing and MCP/API access in one place.
